Lopez, Tucker, Strawberry lead Suns’ Vegas Summer League team
July 3rd, 2008, 1:39 pm by jerrybrownFirst-round draft pick Robin Lopez and last year’s two rookie Suns — Alando Tucker and D.J. Strawberry — will headline Phoenix’s entry in the Vegas Summer League, which will be held July 14-20 at the Thomas & Mack Center and nearby Cox Pavilion.
New Suns assistant coach Dan Majerle will be the head coach, assisted by Igor Kokoskov.
None of the other nine players are expected to make the Suns’ roster, but one or two could earn an invitation to training camp in Tucson with a strong showing. It’s an important time for both Tucker and Strawberry to show their stuff against the top rookie and second-year players around the NBA.
Three other players have a taste of NBA experience: Guard Marcus Vinicius has played 26 games over the last two seasons with the Hornets, while forward Ivan McFarlin spent part of the 2006-07 season with Philadelphia (11 games), and guard Jared Jordan played three exhibition games with the Knicks last year before spending the year in Lithuania.
Suns fans can see the July 18 game against the New York Knicks and the July 19 game against Portland (just about their whole roster would be eligible for this league) will be shown live and then several times thereafter on NBA-TV.
